I re-fell in love with lacquered walls at this year's Kips Bay Decorators Show House, where several of today's most well respected designers used the medium in their space. After touring the home and weighing in on each of the rooms unique tastes and sensibilities, I'd have to say that Alexa Hampton's mix of the medium in her neo-classically inspired master suite was by far my favorite. Here's why:
1. The Switch: Lacquer is not just for modern spaces anymore, but rather a wide variety of rooms from the modern-minimalist to the gilt and glamor found in palaces from around the world. Alexa has helped flip the switch using the medium on the walls of her elegantly designed bedroom, which stands true to the ever so iconic tradition that is Mark Hampton LLC.
2. The Color: Alexa chose a putty stone grey for the space that was to die for. The color alone is very beautiful - but being that finish done in a lacquer added that unexpected element that made the room really shine.
3. The Mix: Last but not least, Alexa's keen eye and exquisite tastes provided the opportunity to incorporate a bit of contemporary into the otherwise uber-traditional space. The lacquered walls were just what the room needed in order to stand out and come to life.

Here are a few more traditional spaces that also have incorporated lacquer on the walls - This is one of my favorite looks right now...
