Preparing For The Portland Home & Garden Show

The Portland Spring Home & Garden Show is finally here! I'm writing this blog the night before the show onsite at the Expo Center and as the dust finally settles and the hammering slowly subsides, the Made In America Home and GHID booth are coming together beautifully. Although we are in the home stretch, there was so much hard work and dedication put into the Made In America Home and the GHID booth.

Westlake Development, GHID and other procured vendors worked together to create the 2200 sq ft. Made In America Home (MIA) at the Portland Home & Garden Show, so lets take a peak at the Made In America Home and GHID booth!

How to pull off a Portland Home & Garden Show

Skill and raw determination...

The planning for the MIA Home started about 2.5 months ago, when Gerald Rowlett with Westlake Development came to a Home Builders Association meeting to propose the idea of bringing a MIA project to the Home & Garden Show. Mike Barclay a Home Designer with Barclay Designs provided plans for the MIA home. Our Junior Designer, Daniel McCulloch jumped all over this project and produced a beautiful front home rendering and landed GHID’s partnership with Westlake Development.

Daniel started researching products that could be used in the MIA home, which means that all of the materials and products have to be manufactured and assembled in the U.S. Although the task seemed daunting at first, we were lucky enough to work with fabulous vendors who helped guide us and educate us on their products.

Helpful tip: The general notion on Made In America products is that it has to fall under a craftsman style home, but that is not the case, now it means staying ahead of the curve and being cutting edge.

Scheduling and checking the details for a design project

Be o.r.g.a.n.i.z.e.d.

As with any project, being organized and paying attention to the details will save you many headaches later. That’s not to say that being organized and detailed will mean avoiding last minute changes, but it does mean that it will be easier for you to think of plan B,C and D. As Westlake Development and procured vendors continue to work (they’ve been working at the Expo Center since Sunday night at 10:00 p.m.) on the MIA Home, Daniel continues to monitor and answer any real-time questions.
